Pastoral Staff

Interim Teaching Pastor: Dr. Joseph Zichterman

Joseph Zichterman grew up near Washington D.C. and committed his life to Christ at the age of 13 as a result of reading the Bible and experiencing God's love first-hand through the life of his aunt Cindy. He earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and is currently finishing a second Ph.D. in Historical Theology (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School). He served as a senior pastor for 8 years and a full-time undergraduate professor of Bible & Theology for 12 years, currently at Multnomah University. Joseph is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature. He has a strong passion for God's plan of unity through diversity in the body of Christ.

Pastor of Pastoral Care Ministries: Pastor Wallace Yeung

  Personal Journey:
I was born and raised in Hong Kong. After I finished my undergraduate studies in 1980, I ventured across the continent to earn a Master's Degree in science at the University Of Salford Manchester, United Kingdom. It was during the time in the UK that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, and was later baptized at the First Baptist Church of Manchester. After the completion of my Master's Degree I journeyed to New York to pursue further academic studies. While in NY I felt God's call to full-time pastoral ministry. And it was in the first year of my studies in NY that I met and married Soo-Ping. Later we moved to Oregon where I earned a Master's Degree in divinity at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. In the last 20+ years I have served in various church leadership positions at Chinese Faith Baptist Church. In 2011, in the face of the growing needs for pastoral care among the people of CFBC, the congregation called and licensed me to serve as their Pastor of Pastoral Care Ministries. I am passionate to meet the needs of the people of this congregation, including their spiritual and physical well-being.

What do you love to see happen in God's people?
I have always had a burden to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others and to see them grow in their relationships with Christ. What I really love see is God's people joining in to that effort, planting seeds and harvesting for the Kingdom of God. It is such a joy to serve among the people with a passion for evangelism.

What do you love to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love enjoying a cup of nice, aromatic Chinese tea and trying out new good eats with my family. If there is a new restaurant in the Portland area, I enjoy trying it out and then sharing my experiences with friends.

What are you most passionate about as a pastor of pastoral care?
I am passionate to meet the needs of the people of our congregation, including their spiritual and physical well-being. I really want to help the people to nurture a deep relationship with God in which they would learn to rely on God more and more each day.

Why do you keep serving God at CFBC?
I feel that God has called me to stay and serve at CFBC. He has really given me a burden to serve our congregation and community. The calling and burden to serve are my motivations to keep serving at CFBC.

What role does Soo-Ping play in your pastoral care ministry?
My wife Soo-Ping plays an important role in my pastoral care ministry: she's my on-going prayer partner. We spend time together every evening to pray for the church and the needs of the congregation. She often helps me with visitations, and she is crucial in counseling married couples with me. She is my greatest supporter, and I rely on her heavily for the balance in life that only she can provide me.
